Pocket spring mattresses are generally more luxurious than their continuous coil cousins.
They are constructed using individual springs housed in separate fabric pockets.
Spring count (how many individual springs are in the mattress) generally applies to the King size, and varies greatly, with some top end beds having 2000 or 3000 springs.
The spring count will normally have a bearing on the price/quality of the mattress, a budget priced pocket spring mattress could have a count of 600 to 800 springs, while most mid priced pocket spring mattresses would be around the 1000 to 1500 mark and most of these would certainly provide good comfort and support.
Pocket springs work independently to respond to individual body weight which is ideal if there is a considerable size or weight difference between you and your partner.
If you sit on the edge of a pocket sprung mattress it may feel softer than you like, but remember the springs are not connected and you are only sitting on a few, the mattress is designed for lying on, and when you do lie down you are being supported by hundreds of individual springs.
